Many people are trying to change themselves from within. They want to stop smoking. They promise to stop being abusive. They vow not to cuss anymore. But even with the sincerest of intentions, their self-efforts amount to little more than behavior modification. Once again, the long-lasting results that they so deeply desire have eluded them. And they wonder why they keep ending up in the same place with the same outcome…. Friend, you’ve got to be born again! You must be saved!
Second Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” When you accept Christ, you receive a nature of righteousness. Your new spirit nature is so pure that God Himself can move in. In fact, it is the only part of you where He can live. As a born-again Christian, you are imparted with the true nature of God. You actually take on God’s DNA. “And put on the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God’s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:24, Amplified Bible).
What is more, at the moment you become saved, your spirit is sealed to preserve your righteousness and to prevent sin from ever entering in (Ephesians 1:13). This reminds me of my mom and how she would make jams. She’d seal the freshness in, but at the same time, she was sealing off all contaminants. Likewise, if you do sin after you become born again, your spirit cannot participate, because it has been perfected in righteousness forever by the Holy Ghost.
But you must renew your mind. Your soul, or your mind, still contains sin residue from your old nature, the one you had before you got saved. Your way of thinking was trained by your former self. The first thing a person should do after becoming born again is renew his or her mind. This is an ongoing process—one that must be done daily by meditating upon the Word of God! It is also how you effectively put on the new man, which the Bible talks about in Ephesians 4:23, 24: “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”
Just think, you possess the divine nature of God! As a Christian, you have 100% God DNA in you! This is not saying you are God. However, when you receive Christ, you receive God’s very own DNA into your spirit. Therefore, you are a partaker of His fullness. And as a new creature in Christ Jesus, God unites Himself with your spirit. First Corinthians 6:17 tells us, “But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” How wonderful that is! The instant you become born again, your spirit man and God become one!
Also, through your new nature, which houses God’s DNA, you have the ability to effect real change in your soul. This will eventually show up in your physical body. The result is your natural experience.
And for those who have received Christ, the Greater One resides in you. As a result, His greatness can come from within you and come out into your life. Determine to become “God-inside” conscious. Know that God is in you when your enemies are trying to come against you. Know that God is in you when you don’t know what to do. He will whisper the answer to you, because God is in you.
Finally, you are the righteousness of God, possessing the DNA of the Almighty in your spirit! Once you begin to realize who you really are, you begin to “do like you really are.” And who you are will produce matching results in your life. This is how you get free of sin, addiction, or anything else that would dare to enslave you. This is how you change your talk, change your walk—CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
